CHIROPRACTIC SERVICES

Chiropractic Services for Patients

Chiropractic is the Science, Art and Philosophy that concerns itself with the restoration of good health by restoring and maintaining a properly functioning nervous system, without the use of drugs or surgery. Chiropractic is based on the scientific fact that your body is a self-regulating, self-healing organism. These important functions are controlled by the brain, spinal cord, and all the nerves of the body. The skull protects the delicate tissues of the brain. The moving bones of the spine protect the vulnerable communication pathways of the spinal cord and nerve roots. If the nervous system is impaired, it can cause malfunction of the tissues and organs throughout the body. Doctors of Chiropractic call this the Vertebral Subluxation Complex. The Chiropractic adjustment has been proven to increase motion, increase circulation, reduce swelling and pain, and remove nerve irritation. Once this nerve irritation is removed, your body is able to do what it is designed to do - heal itself.

Chiropractors help in restoring nervous system function. Many chiropractors also focus on the biomechanics of the body such as joint motion. Helping to restore proper spinal biomechanics and improved nervous system function begins with a case history. Your case history is vital, as it reveals the background about your health such as surgeries, accidents, the onset of your condition, and other details, which brought you into the office. After reviewing your history and discussing your specific problem, a thorough orthopaedic, neurological, and chiropractic examination is performed. X-rays may be taken which will help uncover structural and functional problems. Then, once the examination is complete, your chiropractor will explain the findings and outline a treatment plan. Progress is then monitored with periodic examinations and follow-up reports.

Therapy

Along with the Chiropractic Adjustment, we also have to consider the soft tissues involved to address these conditions, we offer a wide range of Physiotherapies at our office to better serve your individual needs. Ask Dr. Mathis if the addition of a Physiotherapy would be right for your care.

X-Rays/Radiographs

We offer X-rays on site (If medically necessary).

X-Rays were discovered in 1895 by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen by accident. He named his discovery 'X-Rays' because X stood for an unknown quantity. The first clinical Radiograph was taken by Professor Roentgen on November 8, 1895 of his wife's (Anna Bertha Roentgen) hand in Wurzburg, Germany. X-Ray was introduced to the chiropractic profession in 1910 by B.J. Palmer, president of the Palmer School of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. Since the discovery of X-Rays, we have come a long way in further developing radiographs into a clear image which we now use for diagnostic purposes in the medical field.

Massage

The massage that is prescribed in our office is therapeutic massage, with techniques used for deep tissue work and muscle rehabilitation, including myofascial release, neuromuscular re-education and stretching techniques. This type of massage does not necessarily make you “feel good” the first visit or two because of the deep tissue work. When muscles have been injured due to an accident or to a sprain/strain-type injury, they will be very tight and knotted up and will require direct work to loosen up the tissues and release built up toxins that contribute to the persistence of symptomatology, which may cause some discomfort and, and in some cases, even some flu-like symptoms. It is important to drink plenty of water following massage therapy in order to flush the released toxins out of the system
